Mazda EDR Access

As of October 3, 2011, Mazda and Bosch began working on developing software and hardware to allow the Bosch CDR Toolkit to access Event Data Recorder (EDR) system information in select Mazda vehicles. With passing time, it is anticipated that the Bosch CDR Toolkit will be able to access EDR system information in all Mazda vehicles equipped with crash-data-recording capability. The Bosch CDR Toolkit currently provides access to a tremendous range of vehicles manufactured by General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, and Fiat. This includes accessing data in GM Rollover Sensors (ROS) and Ford Powertrain Control Modules (PCM).

Beginning in September of 2012, automobile manufacturers will be required to provide access to crash data contained in one or more modules within the vehicle, if they store any crash data, and that access will have to be allowed or provided by a commercially available product or system. That capability must be operational no more than 90 days after the first sale of those vehicles. Also, this final rule (49 CFR Part 563) will require that the module(s) store a specified list of data elements as a minimum. It is likely that many more manufacturers will be working with Bosch in the near future. Bosch is currently the only manufacturer of any commercially available system to extract crash data from any car or light truck.

Thank you for reading about the agreement with Mazda. More information about Mazda modules and other manufacturers who may work with Bosch to provide the Federally mandated access to crash data will be provided when it becomes available. If you wish to return to the home page, please click here.
